Whispering Woods-Walk to town

Whispering Woods is a two-level mountain cabin with today's style set in a lush forest of rhododendrons. Walk to town and everything Highlands has to offer. Main level offers an open floor plan with a kitchen, living and dining area, laundry, and half bath. The master bedroom has a king bed and private bath. The screened porch overlooks native rhododendrons, which also helps provide Whispering Woods a private setting. The upper level has two bedrooms and one full bath. One bedroom has a Queen bed, and the other has a queen bed and one twin- perfect for visiting guest overflow. Enjoy the cool mountain air on the screened porch, a great place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an afternoon glass of wine, and always with a good book. Whispering Woods proves to be the quintessential home base for discovering Highlands and the surrounding mountain happenings.

This property is IN town, but the setting is serene and private. Easy walking distance to Harris Lake- a great place for a small picnic or to watch the ducks and geese. Another few hundred steps will lead you to the library, churches, and Main Street, and don't forget about The Nature Center or hiking up Sunset Rock- you can look down over the whole town from there.

Rest assured, almost everything is within 5-10 minutes if you must take your car. The restaurants in Highlands range from pick-up food (there are no fast food chain restaurants) to 4-star dining places. The shopping has you covered with varied items from T-shirts to furs, trinkets to high-fashion, fine jewelry, collectibles for your home, and furnishings.

There are NO discounts on the nightly rate for this home.
The gas-log fireplace may not be operable and is not included in the rental.
This home has a three-night minimum, except for HOLIDAYS AND SOME LOCAL EVENTS.

The rental app you are using may allow you to make two or three-night rentals during these times, but that doesn't mean the reservation will be honored.

  The location of the house was okay - down a gravel road and it would definitely be quite a walk into town - especially after days spent hiking.
  
  The layout of the house is great and just as described. It was nice being in the trees.
  
  Where things fall short: the mattress badly need to be replaced. The mattress toppers are not enough! Who wants to go on vacation and not be able to sleep? Each and every bed was horrible.
  
  The house was not clean on arrival. Very dusty - obvious just by looking. The 1/2 bath toilet was dirty, the shower in the master had mold in the grout lines, there were crayons and other items left out on the tables in the master (from previous guests)? I think their idea of cleaning was changing the sheets (hopefully), putting out clean towels, and emptying the dishwasher (which was very hard to figure out how to start).
  
  The sofa in the main room needs to be replaced - very worn.
  
  I hope they spend my $35 non-refundable security deposit on a new coffee maker. The heat pad on it is completed rusted.
  
  The cabinets were sticky. I am not sure if it was the paint or just dirty. It would make a world of difference to have the cabinets refaced.

  Nice location. Bright inside. Privacy from master upstairs. Needs new mattresses on all needs. Each one has a 4 inch topper which after might #1 revealed lopsided old mattresses. Recliners in living room are also pretty worn. More spices in closet or everyday grocery would have been nice to see.

  We liked it so much that we stayed an extra week! It was missing a gas grill (charcoal grill was provided) so we purchased a simple camping grill in town. Worked out perfectly well (and no we didn't leave it outside to attract bears!).

  We really enjoyed our stay at Whispering Woods. The location is walkable to downtown Highlands and the floorplan of the home works well. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. Loved having a pantry! The only negative would be the condition of the wicker porch furniture, which is falling apart and needs to be replaced.
