Cold Mountain Cabin -
A nice surprise tucked away near the base of Hogback Mountain. This three bedroom, two bath home has everything you need for a weekend getaway or a much longer stay in the beautiful mountains of western NC. All one easy living level, you'll find a wrap-around deck, living area with a gas log fireplace, 43" TV, comfortable seating and a small game table. The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped and ready for you to prepare some good ol' mountain cooking. The Mst. BR has a Queen bed, 32" TV and private bath. The guest room has two twins and shares a full bath with the third bedroom with a bunk bed. The laundry area is located in the mud room which is off of the side entrance. This home has Wi-Fi, a landline (your cell phone may or may not work here). Although you may not need it most of the time, this home does have air conditioning. (You may be surprised at how many homes in the area do not have A/C- we've got you covered )
The yard is mostly level- great for children, bring a quilt/blanket and have an outdoor picnic, or enjoy a good book, but be prepared to take a snooze, because the sounds of nearby Little Buck Creek just may lull into slumber.
Cold Mountain Cabin is centrally located between the quaint mountain towns of Highlands and Franklin.
Main Street, Highlands is about 9.5 miles away and offers an array of shopping from T-shirt to furs, hamburger places to 4-star restaurants. During 'the season', you'll hear music on the weekends, and there are things like Farmer's Markets and craft shows from time-to-time. Culturally, there's a small movie theatre, live theatre, domed, heated pool open year round (offering laps as well as water aerobics), Hudson Library, The Bascom Center for visual arts, and the Performing Arts Center, Highlands Historical Society and Museum. If you're into nature, Highlands has a wonderful in-town Greenway trail (you can take a five minute walk, or much, much, longer) Great for people that like to get some energy out while enjoying the natural canopy of trees. The Highlands Biological Station, Nature Center and Botanical Gardens are a great place to start to find out more about the flora and fauna of the area. Highlands has no chain stores to speak of (Unless you count the gas stations and Kilwin's chocolates)
Main Street Franklin is about 13 miles from Cold Mountain Cabin, and is the county seat for Macon County. Franklin is a little more spread out, and offers a lovely and quaint Main Street. Franklin is known as the gem capitol of the world! The Main Street is mostly closed on Sundays, but other than that, it's alive with Mom & Pop stores including the Scottish Tartans Society/Museum, book stores, coffee shops and more. Franklin is where you'll find the larger discount stores like Walmart, and home store like Lowe's etc. And many fast food restaurants (if you must, but try Frog Town Market, or the local Mexican And Thai restaurants) They have a larger movie theatre and and the Franklin Performing Arts Center which is conveniently located next door to The Factory- a great place for kids of all ages.
The whole area is known for its waterfalls, but there are also things to do like zip lining, fly fishing and of course golf. In Highlands, all the golf courses are private, but there are several open to the public within 30 minutes to an hour of Cold Mountain Cabin.
The hiking around these parts are truly special, some have grand mountain vistas, while others take you to places deep into the woods where you'll really feel away from it all.
